Donato Romano, associate professor at the Sant Anna School of Advanced Studies, elected member of the Accademia di Ingegneria e Tecnologia (ITATEC) m.nardini Wed, 07/09/2025 - 10:17 Donato Romano, Associate Professor at the BioRobotics Institute of the Sant Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, has been elected junior member (member under 40 years of age) of the Italian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ITATEC), an institution founded in 2022 at the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei to promote Italian excellence in the fields of engineering and technology.
With his entry into ITATEC, Donato Romano will contribute his scientific expertise in the fields of biotechnology and biosystems engineering, areas in which he has successfully combined interdisciplinary approaches through the integration of biology, robotics and artificial intelligence, promoting the development of bio-inspired engineering solutions for ecosystem management, biodiversity protection and advanced environmental applications.

Being elected a junior member of the Italian Academy of Technology and Engineering is a source of great pride and responsibility for me,’ said Donato Romano. It is a recognition that values not only my scientific career, but also the interdisciplinary vision that guides my research, at the intersection of biology and technology. Sharing ideas and projects within such an authoritative context is a valuable opportunity to contribute in a concrete way, through environmental bioengineering, biomimetics and biohybrid systems, to the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for environmental protection and the progress of society.

ITATEC is an independent, multidisciplinary, non-profit association, which currently has 122 members, including 12 junior members. The Academy provides scientific and technological support to public and private institutions, actively participates in the European debate through the European Council of Applied Sciences, Technology and Engineering (Euro-CASE), and promotes research and consultancy projects on applied innovation issues.
The Academy s Presidency is currently composed of distinguished figures from the world of science and technology, including President Speranza Falciano, Vice-Presidents Massimo Morbidelli and Francesca Zarri, and Nobel Prize winner Giorgio Parisi.
