He will remain in office until 25 June 2028 m.nardini Thu, 06/05/2025 - 11:26 Piero Castoldi, full professor of Telecommunications, has been confirmed as Director of the Institute of Telecommunications, Informatics and Photonics (TeCIP) of the Sant Anna School of Advanced Studies for a further three years, from 26 June 2025 to 25 June 2028. Piero Castoldi has received best wishes and congratulations from the entire academic community. ‘I am honoured by this confirmation of trust, and I intend to stimulate and promote new initiatives capable of further enhancing the prestige and impact of the Institute of Telecommunications, Informatics and Photonics of the Sant Anna School of Advanced Studies, drawing on the experience gained during my first term and the results achieved in the strategic plan,’ said Castoldi.Piero Castoldi has 35 years of professional experience, entirely in university roles and as an affiliate of research institutions, in the development of both theoretical and experimental research on telecommunications networks and equipment and on service engineering. More recently, he has also been involved in telemedicine systems with a particular focus on connectivity aspects. He is the author of more than 500 publications and has over 10,000 citations on Google Scholar. He is also the co-inventor of more than 20 patents.He was an elected member of the Academic Senate of the School from 2014 to 2016 and served as Director of the National Photonic Networks Laboratory of the National Interuniversity Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT) for two consecutive terms from 2005 to 2010. He was Rector s delegate for Master s Degrees and PhDs in the 2016-2019 period, Deputy Director of the TeCIP Institute from 2019 to 2022 and then elected Director. He was recently appointed Pro-Rector for Academic Coordination by Nicola Vitiello, the new Rector of the School.As Head of Research, he has obtained and managed funding for research projects worth over €22 million, participating in competitive European, national and regional calls for proposals on topics related to the design and control of telecommunications networks for transport and 5G mobile radio systems. He has also been responsible for research contracts for RFI, Trenitalia, TIM, Ericsson, Schindler, and many others.In terms of training, he has obtained funding for educational programmes amounting to approximately ten million euros for scholarships and management and teaching costs for the implementation of Master s degrees, first and second level university Master s degrees, and specific advanced training courses. Of particular importance was the management and coordination of two two-year Erasmus Mundus Master s programmes entitled Photonic Networks Engineering (MAPNET) and Photonic Integrated Circuits Networks and Sensors (PIXNET), which were launched in 2010-2016 and 2018-2022, respectively.
