At a crucial time for higher education in Europe, the European Engineering Learning Innovation and Science Alliance (EELISA) has issued a joint statement reaffirming its commitment to the creation of joint European degrees. These programs aim to train a new generation of leaders in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM), capable of tackling contemporary global challenges. The declaration, titled Education for Impact - EELISA Joint Degrees Empowering the Next Generation of European STEAM Leaders, was signed during recent EELISA Governance meetings held in Paris. It stresses the importance of joint degrees as strategic tools to promote innovation, sustainability and democratic values within the European Higher Education Area.Looking to the future, EELISA intends to extend the reach of its programs beyond Europe s borders. Joint degrees will become key tools for establishing global partnerships, attracting international talent and promoting scientific and educational cooperation with non-European institutions. What are joint degrees?Within the EELISA Alliance, Joint Degrees represent a new generation of joint degrees designed to meet the needs of innovative, inclusive and impact-driven European higher education. After an initial phase of development, EELISA is now designing innovative joint curricula in the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) fields, harmoniously integrating the social sciences and humanities as well. This multidisciplinary approach makes it possible to train well-rounded professionals capable of tackling the complex challenges of our time. These programs are developed according to a shared quality assurance framework, in accordance with European standards (EQAR) and in line with the Blueprint for a European Degree promoted by the European Commission. The process is actively supported by ENAEE (an associate partner of EELISA) and national accreditation agencies, which ensure official recognition and academic consistency of degrees in different national contexts.
