As chief scientist at Oceana, the largest international organization advocating for oceans, Matthews harnesses scientific evidence to protect the planet’s marine ecosystems and all of us who depend on them. The job involves advocating for policy changes that support sustainable fisheries management, marine ecosystem conservation, biodiversity, and transparency in governance—or as she puts it, “all of the things that you need to have sustainable ocean management.”
