Stony Brook mourns the passing of Edmund D. Pellegrino, MD, a physician world-renowned as a founder of the field of bioethics and an innovator in medical and health science education. As the founder of Stony Brook University s Health Sciences Center and the first Dean of Stony Brook University School of Medicine, Dr. Pellegrino put Stony Brook on a course more than 40 years ago to become a leading academic medical center. Dr. Pellegrino was active until his death in June, a week shy of his 93rd birthday.
