Biography Biography Jian Zhou s research leverages microfluidic technology to advance both basic and translational cancer studies, with the ultimate goal of improving cancer clinical management and cancer patient outcome. His interdisciplinary approach integrates principles of physics, engineering, and cancer biology to address critical challenges in oncology.His work spans a broad spectrum of topics, including cancer screening and early detection, liquid biopsy, circulating biomarkers, 3D in vitro tumor models, drug testing, immune-tumor interactions, mechanobiology, hemodynamic dynamics, cell sorting, and single-cell analysis. One current research focus investigates how immune cells respond to tumors and explores the potential of microfluidic platforms to harness these responses for lung cancer diagnostics and therapeutics.Zhou is also developing advanced preclinical tumor models that closely mimic the in vivo tumor microenvironment, enabling mechanistic studies and more predictive drug testing. Additionally, his work examines complex cell-cell interactions in whole blood, unlocking novel cell-sorting capabilities for rare cell detection and the discovery of circulating tumor biomarkers. Recently, his research has expanded to the mechanotransduction of immune and tumor cells and its role in regulating cellular functions.
